Collective bargaining is a problem-solving process. Board members and teachers focus on the same goal – the best possible training for all students. There may be different perspectives on how to achieve this goal. The solution to the problem is to reach an agreement that puts children first and where both parties feel good. Non-teaching faculty are members of the Union of Canadian Public Employees (CUPE) Local 4802. The results and working conditions are set out in a collective agreement negotiated with Sun West`s school division. Collective Agreement C.U.P.E. Local 4802 September 1, 2017 to Aug. 31, 2021 Teachers employed in the Sun West School Division are subject to a provincial agreement and a local agreement. The union and the government reached the provisional agreement on 22 April.

The agreement is retroactive to September 1 and runs until August 31, 2023. Saskatchewan teachers have ratified a new contract with the provincial government. The Joint Committee on Good Practice and Dispute Resolution published a report in December 2002. In the report, the Panel made a number of specific recommendations for consideration by the parties. The local agreement is between the Sun West Teachers` Association (SWTA) and the Sun West School Division. The provincial agreement is between the Saskatchewan Teachers` Federation (STF) and the provincial government and the Saskatchewan School Boards` Association (SSBA), which represents Sun West and other local school departments. .
